There are three ways your home can be exposed to wildfire:
- Direct flames from a wildfire, an adjacent structure, or wind-blown debris.
- Radiant heat from nearby burning plants, structures, or wind-blown debris.
- Flying embers from a wildfire can destroy homes up to a mile away and are responsible for the destruction of most homes during a wildfire.
More than 80% of damaged structures involved in Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) fires are found to have been ignited from wind-blown embers, from up to a mile or more away.
